World Wildlife Day falls on March 3rd each year and celebrates the significance of preserving wildlife and its impact on the state of the world.

The day serves as an important reminder that the survival of many species is under threat due to human activities like habitat destruction and poaching. Human-driven climate change further compounds the challenges wildlife faces by altering habitats, disrupting ecosystems, and affecting the availability of resources essential for survival. It is estimated that more than one million species are at risk of extinction, which could have devastating consequences for both ecosystems and humans. Because ecosystems are intricate and interconnected systems, the extinction of a single species can cause a domino effect. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed World Wildlife Day in 2013 to celebrate the diversity of life on Earth, honoring every living creature, from the tiny butterfly to the mighty blue whale.

The World Wildlife Fund's Efforts

For six decades, The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has dedicated itself to fostering the well-being of both humanity and the natural world. WWF operates across nearly 100 nations and is considered the leading conservation organization. They collaborate with individuals to formulate and implement groundbreaking strategies that safeguard societies, wildlife, and their respective habitats. However, the unfortunate reality is that despite their efforts biodiversity is still being lost at an alarming rate. Since 1970, there has been a 69% decrease in the number of birds, amphibians, mammals, fish, and reptiles. Many people are unaware of the extent to which humans rely on the balance of animals to sustain our planet. Due to this, the WWF has worked to promote awareness and has achieved some success in sustaining wildlife. For example, the organization recently collaborated with a regenerative ocean farm in Pembrokeshire- Câr y Môr, located in the UK. Their collaboration is aimed at supporting the sustainable seaweed industry’s growth and measuring the effectiveness of the ocean farm. In addition, this year they plan to explore the potential uses of seaweed, which may aid in addressing the climate and nature crises.

Partnerships For Wildlife Conservation

This year, WWF is celebrating World Wildlife Day under the theme "Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation," which recognizes the need for collaboration among governments, conservation organizations, local communities, and other stakeholders to address the ongoing threats to wildlife and their habitats. The theme also pays tribute to the many people who contribute to the cause and are working tirelessly to protect wildlife and biodiversity around the world. From rangers and park officials to conservationists and researchers, these individuals are dedicated to safeguarding the natural world and ensuring that future generations can enjoy its wonders.  The bottom line is that the conservation and protection of wildlife and biodiversity are crucial to ensure a healthy planet for all living beings. At Aclymate, we aim to drive change and lead in the sustainability sector. Many of our offset projects support wildlife management and preservation balance. Through our offset marketplace, you can enhance forestry and biodiversity conservation all over the world. Sustaining the environment and helping the many species that depend on it is something that can allow you to further help the planet and all of its inhabitants.

WWF and Climate Change

WWF is dedicated to helping the world combat and prepare for the effects of climate change. In order to do so, WWF collaborates with communities and governments from around the world. Their three main goals are:

  • Preparing for a new world: Make preparations for the effects of climate change by working with local communities and officials.
  • Fulfilling the promise of the Paris Agreement: Helping others meet the climate goals of the agreement by providing financial support, assisting developing countries in their efforts, raising awareness, and more.
  • Combating deforestation emissions: Providing funds to help manage protected forests, helping put a stop to illegal logging practices, and more.
